Wolves inflict defeat on 3SC                           Posted on Monday, Feb 8th 2010

Warri Wolves beat Shooting Stars 2-0 at the Oleh Township Stadium on Sunday to move up to fourth place on the Glo premiership log while 3SC slipped to 19th.
A goal in each half by the Warri-based side saw 3SC suffering their 8th defeat of the campaign and their third under Mutiu Adepoju’s guidance as interim coach.
Ekigho Ehiosun struck for the home side on the half hour mark while Ebuka Okafor’s 63rd minute effort doubled the lead for Lawrence Akpokona’s side. Shooting Stars lost several scoring opportunities in the game, including a late penalty which was squandered by David Abidoye.

The game, which was played behind closed doors on NFL’s order following fan unrest in Wolves’ previous matches at the same venue, was sparsely attended as only officials of both sides were present.

3SC’s Media Officer Jubril Arowolo disclosed that centre referee Ibrahim Sheu’s excellent handling of the match left both teams satisfied, describing it as the best away officiating ever experienced by the visitors since the start of the league season.

In other Week 18 matches decided over the weekend, log leaders Enyimba relied on a last-minute penalty to edge hard-fighting Sunshine Stars 2-1 at the International Stadium in Aba.
With this victory the People’s Elephant remained two points clear at the top over their closest rivals Kano Pillars, who also claimed maximum points at home by beating Lobi Stars 2-0.

In Yenagoa, Kwara United shocked defending champions Bayelsa United
2-1 to move up to third on the table.
Gateway FC eased some of their relegation worries when they beat visiting Ocean Boys 2-0 at the MKO Abiola Stadium.
Elsewhere, Niger Tornadoes pounded Zamfara United 3-1 in Minna while Ranch Bees, whose coach Gideon Gaiya resigned during the week, edged Sharks 2-1 at the Kaduna Township Stadium.

Gombe United also maintained their winning streak with a well-deserved
2-1 win over visiting Heartland of Owerri.
In Port Harcourt Dolphins defeated Kaduna United by the same margin while Rangers International secured a lone goal victory against Wikki Tourists at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
