Sharks overpower 3SC in Port Harcourt Posted on Sunday, Dec.20th 2009 The Globacom Premier League entered its 11th week on Saturday, with five matches decided across the nation. In Port Harcourt, Sharks won their second game on the trot when they handed out a 2-0 defeat to visiting Shooting Stars at the Liberation Stadium. Bright Ejike struck the opening goal on the stroke of half time when his header found the net, beating 3SC goalkeeper Laide Okanlawon hands down. Three minutes after the restart, Sharks doubled their lead when ThankGod Amaefule converted a penalty after Shooting Stars’ new signing Obatan Odion had upended an on-rushing Friday Nwoga. Shooting Stars could have earned a better result from this game, but several misses in both halves ensured another barren outing for the Oluyole Warriors. Newly-signed striker David Abidoye lost two glaring opportunities in the first half while substitute Dolapo Omotayo also fluffed a sitter with only five minutes left to play. 3SC’s Media Officer Jubril Arowolo reports that the well-contested match had centre referee Usman Mohammed from Jos in total control.s However, in spite of Saturday’s win, Sharks are still rooted to the bottom of the 20-team log with nine points from 10 matches while Shooting Stars slipped further down the table with 10 points in 11 games. In Kaduna, Ranch Bees pipped Kaduna United 1-0 to win a hotly-contested local derby game at the Kaduna Township Stadium. Veteran former Lobi Stars forward Terkimbir Akighir hit target three minutes after the restart to send Ranchers fans into raptures. It was the same score-line at the Bako Kontagora Stadium where Niger Tornadoes made a triumphant return, hitting Sunshine Stars with a late goal scored by Eugene Salami. With this result, Tornadoes temporarily moved up to fourth place with 17 points in 10 games. In Abeokuta, Michael Ezekiel saved Gateway from imminent home defeat when he drew his side level shortly before half time to cancel out Dolphins’ opening strike by Joseph Obinna.
