Defending champions of the Oyo State Federation Cup, Shooting Stars narrowly edged the Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria (FRIN) FC 1-0 on Wednesday to advance to the quarterfinal stage of the competition.

New boy Shaibu Karimu scored the only goal in the 10th minute of the keenly-contested match, which was played at the Olubadan Stadium.  

FRIN stretched their more experienced opponents to the limit but failed to do what mattered most – score.

With this victory, Shooting Stars will now square up with Zaphet FC in a quarterfinal fixture to be played at the same venue next Wednesday.

Meanwhile, coach of 3SC’s U-20 team, Tunde Odubola says his boys are battle ready as they face YK Abass FC in a quarterfinal tie also scheduled for next week.

This followed the team’s penalty shoot-out defeat of Mighty Crown FC of Ogbomosho in a first round match decided in Eruwa on Monday.

Scores stood 0-0 at full time, but 3SC prevailed in the resultant shoot-out, converting four of their kicks as against Mighty crown’s two.
