Odubola delighted at winning Ojo-Oba Cup Posted on Monday, Jan 4th 2010
Shooting Stars U-20 coach Tunde Odubola says his boys deserved to be crowned champions after they edged Oke Ado United FC 4-2 on penalties to win the Bolaji Ojo-Oba Cup last Wednesday.
“Our successful defence of the cup confirms that our winning it last year was no fluke. I am indeed proud of the team for making us proud, and by God’s grace we hope to win it again this year,” he enthused.
This year’s competition was filled with frills and thrills as every team was seen as a potential winner.
One of the toughest games of this year’s edition was the semifinal fixture between SOEM FC and 3SC, which the latter won 2-1 with goals from Lukman Tijani and Wole Adeogun.
The final match also proved to be a classic, and the near-capacity crowd at the Olubadan Stadium were served the best in youth football as both teams battled to grab the winner.
But scores remained deadlocked at the end of regulation time, and in the resultant penalty shootout, 3SC emerged victorious. Shooting Stars’ four penalty goals were scored by Nurudeen Adekunle, Lukman Tijani, Abiodun Akande and Chima Akas.
3SC’s back to back victory was the first in the history of the annual competition sponsored by NFF’s General Secretary Dr , Bolaji Ojo-Oba.
For their effort, Shooting Stars smiled home with a set of brand new jersies presented by the cup donor Dr. Ojo-Oba.
