Mayhem in Ogbomoso as Crown and 3SC supporters clash            Posted on Monday,Mar.23rd 2009

Ugly scenes of violence between rival supporters marred the aftermath of Sunday’s National League encounter between Crown FC and Shooting Stars in Ogbomoso.

Crown triumphed 1-0 after scoring a questionable penalty in the very first minute of the match, but the game itself was overshadowed by the vicious, unprovoked attack on 3SC supporters by the irate home fans.

Eye witness accounts revealed that unruly, matchet-wielding  supporters of Crown FC descended heavily on Shooting Stars fans just after the Week 20 match, with a considerable number of the visiting fans sustaining injuries.

Besides the bodily injuries suffered by some of the 3SC fans, five of their buses were also badly damaged, with shattered windscreens littering the whole place.

Narrating the horrible ordeal, 3SC’s Media Officer Jubril Arowolo disclosed that it was narrow escape for him and several of the club’s fans.

“Right from when we entered the Ogbomoso Township Stadium (venue of the match), it was obvious that Crown were intent on winning at all cost, and the intimidation of their fans attests to that.

“We had expected this game to be a brotherly affair, and we did mount a comprehensive awareness campaign to educate fans of both teams on the importance of peace and harmony, but it’s so unfortunate that this had to happen.

“In fact, we had to run for cover as the Crown fans threatened to do even worse.”

Arowolo further reported that one 3SC supporter was rushed to the hospital being severely matcheted by irate fans of the home team

“It was one hell of an experience. The Crown supporters were bent on inflicting grievous damage on us, and as we scampered for safety, we never even realized the extent of the damage done to the buses until later.”

Arowolo said 3SC will be making an appropriate official protest to the league’s governing body regarding the unfortunate incident.
