Lobi overpower 3SC in Makurdi Posted on Monday,Nov.23rd 2009
Lobi won the battle of the stars after overcoming Shooting Stars 2- 0 in a Week Seven Globacom Premier League game decided at the Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi last Sunday.
Phillip Boamah’s side gave a very good account of themselves but the hosts looked the more determined side, and in the end, their victory was somewhat justified.
Blessing Okardi shot Lobi into the lead after 23 minutes when his well-swung free kick cut through 3SC’s defensive wall and beat goalkeeper Segun Oluwaniyi hands down.
Shooting Stars fought back and gave Lobi a good run for their money, but it was the home side that got another lucky break when Yannick Kanu struck to double Lobi’s lead.
Kanu hit the target when he drove the ball in from the edge of the 18-yard box after centre referee Reverend Eze A.O. from Enugu had ignored a Thierry Henry-like handball by the striker.
Shooting Stars Media Officer Jubril Arowolo reports that left wing back Diran Oyelade had an outstanding game in his first start for 3SC.
Second half changes by the 3SC bench saw Tope Orelope making his entry as 3SC came out fighting, but Lobi Stars held on for their third home win of the season.
