Oluwaniyi upbeat despite 3SC’s loss to Kwara Posted onMonday, Sept. 14th 2009

In spite of the 1-0 defeat suffered by Shooting Stars at the hands of Kwara United last Sunday, 3SC goalkeeper Segun Oluwaniyi has told shootingstarssc.com that the team will shine this season.

“We threw so many chances away, it was unbelievable. This is normal in a game of football. However, I am positive that when the league comes on we shall score goals. Even our fans realize we played well today but the goals just refused to come,” he said.

The visitors struck early in the first half to complete a double over the Oluyole Warriors whom they had beaten 2-1 in Ilorin a fortnight ago.

Parading some of their new signings, Shooting Stars made several attempts to turn the table particularly in the super-charged second half of the game, but they either frittered goal-scoring opportunities or were thwarted by the resolute back-line of Kwara United.

3SC’s Chief Coach Phillip Boamah was indisposed and could not attend the game. His conspicuous absence may have affected the team in a way but a majority of 3SC fans opined that it was inconsequential since Sunday’s match was only a friendly.

“Winning is good, but losing is also part of the game. We had full control of the match for very long periods, but we just couldn’t convert the chances we created.

“This will not set us back, though. We have been trying several combinations and somehow we are getting there. Hopefully we shall get it right before the league begins,” one of the fans enthused.

Sunday’s game was in continuation of a series of friendly matches arranged by 3SC management to keep the team in shape for this season’s Globacon Premier League.

Shooting Stars open their league account away to Kano Pillars on September 30.

Meanwhile, Kabiru Alausa, who disappeared from the 3SC camp while negotiations were still on to sign him, is believed to have teamed up with Akure-based Premier League side Sunshine Stars FC.
