Sudan: Ikade ends season on a high               Posted on Friday,Nov.21st 2008

It’s hardly surprising that Al Merreikh have been crowned the league champions again as they beat eternal rivals Al Hilal to second place.

The only surprise has to be the mercurial rise of modest Hayel Arab FC who gave the two heavyweights a good run for their money.

The club finished in third place on 37 points thanks to their in-form Nigerian marksman Patrick Ikade who grabbed a personal best of eight goals during the campaign.

Even though Hayel lost their last game of the season 3-2 to Al Hilal Asehil of Port Sudan in a local derby which saw Ikade hitting home another stunner, the club can now stand up and be counted amongst Sudan’s elite.

Ikade enjoyed a splendid season with the modest outfit by winning several Man of the Match Awards and has proved that his brilliant showings of last season was no fluke..

He was instrumental in steering Hayel Arab to fourth-place finish on the log last season when he formed a terrific three-man partnership with fellow Nigerians Sheriff Sule and Peter Oamen.
