Howard sees stars as Prime hold 3SC        Posted on Monday, Mar.9th 2009

Shooting Stars Chief Coach Franklin Howard was again at the receiving end of supporters’ angry reaction after his team failed to secure the maximum league points against Prime FC in a Week 17 National League encounter decided at the Lekan Salami Stadium on Saturday.

Similar scenes of violent fan reaction were recorded when Bendel Insurance held 3SC to a goalless draw at the same venue in January.

On this occasion however, hopes of another home victory were overwhelming, particularly on account of the recent 1-0 defeat of FC Ebedei in Ijebu-Ode. Psychologically too, 3SC seemed to have the edge after holding Prime to a goalless draw away in the first round.

Celebrations had started in earnest as 3SC shot into the lead on 45 minutes when Tope Orelope converted a penalty after he had been upended in the box by a Prime defender

But the visitors came back stronger in the second stanza, and seven minutes after the restart, Lekan Agunloye struck from a corner kick to restore parity for the Oshogbo side.

Efforts by the home team to regain their lead was aborted by the resilient defense-line of Prime FC.

The highly-contested game eventually ended one goal apiece, and after the final whistle, 3SC supporters were incensed over what they termed an unsatisfactory performance by their team.

Coach Howard was almost held hostage by the angry supporters and after a while, had to be escorted out of the Lekan Salami Stadium arena by the police.

It was another sad day for the Oluyole Warriors faithful, as hopes of another home win went up in smoke.
