Boamah blames result on ‘low quality players’    Posted on Sunday, Nov. 29th 2009

Chief Coach Phillip Boamah has lamented the lack of quality players in the present Shooting Stars team.

Reacting to last weekend’s uninspiring goalless draw at home to Ocean Boys in Ibadan , the 3SC handler blamed the result on the absence of quality players and his team’s profligacy in front of goal.

“First of all let me admit that Ocean Boys are a good side. Everyone felt the tension, and I particularly feel bad not getting the three points at stake.

“I am sad because our position (on the premiership table) is bad. In a situation whereby your players cannot transform chances into goals, you have to pay the price.

“I am not saying the referee cheated us but going back to our last away match against Lobi Stars in Makurdi, everyone could see we were victims of poor officiating.

“Now we are obliged to ask similar questions on officiating. Today our free kick goal was legitimate, and I don’t understand why the referee disallowed it.

On the Shooting Stars squad assembled before the start of the season, Boamah admitted that he inherited a poor set up, but promised to remedy the situation in the near future.

“I inherited 25 players during our build up for the new season, but these players are not of premiership standard. However, we have mapped out plans to do something about the situation when the time comes,” he disclosed.
