Adepoju admits pressure, banks on victory over Rangers    Posted on Sunday, Nov. 29th 2009

Shooting Stars General Manager and Nigeria ex-international, Mutiu Adepoju admits there’s pressure on the team to perform or get kicked out of the Globacom Premier League.

He was reacting to last Saturday’s boring goalless draw against Ocean Boys in Ibadan , a result that put a question mark on 3SC’s readiness to compete in the Nigeria premiership.

“We are not happy drawing this crucial game (against Ocean Boys). We have to admit that the pressure is on all of us to perform, with the knowledge that the Premier League is of a higher standard than the national first division.

“Perhaps if we had converted that penalty the pressure would have receded, but in any case that’s football.”

He backed up Chief Coach Phillip Boamah on the need to buy more quality players to augment the present squad, stressing that this is the only way to create team balance and rhythm.

“We are not arguing the fact that our present squad lacks quality and experience to compete at the highest level of Nigerian football. That’s why we are making concerted efforts aimed at beefing up the team. This we hope to do during the midseason transfers,” he disclosed.

He criticized the biased officiating suffered by 3SC in the Week Seven match against Lobi Stars in Makurdi, and emphasized the fact that visiting teams are not given the same raw deal in Ibadan .

“In Ibadan there’s nothing like home advantage because we have to fight for every single point. It’s a level playing field we have here and every team can attest to that,” he said.
