Action time as 3SC battle Kaduna United Posted on Tuesday,Nov. 17th 2009
Exciting Glo Premiership action returns after almost four weeks of recess in honour of the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
In Ibadan, Shooting Stars begin their march to redemption when they entertain visiting Kaduna United at the Liberty Stadium. The Oluyole Warriors will miss their dependable pair of striker Timothy Idogbe and midfielder Bolaji Adekunle who are out with injuries.
In a clash of former champions, Glo League leaders Lobi Stars take the ultimate test against Ocean Boys in Oghara.
Lobi have Enyimba and Sunshine Stars breathing down their neck at the top of the table, and defeat could spell doom for the former champions, but coach Ufere Nwankwo’s experience can come handy for the stars in this cracker of a match.
Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri hosts the titanic clash between CAF Champions League runners up Heartland FC and Dolphins of Port Harcourt. After suffering a 4-0 hiding from Kano Pillars and losing out to TP Mazembe in the Champions League final, Heartland know they owe their fans big time, and this could be an opportunity to start off on a good footing again.
Elsewhere it’s a battle of wits as fourth-placed Warri Wolves visit Niger Tornadoes in Minna.
Buoyed by the acquisition of international midfielder Richard Eromoigbe, the Warri team will be looking to turn the heat on Tornadoes, who recorded an upset against Heartland before the league went on recess.
Former champions Enyimba seek their first away win with a trip to nearby Port Harcourt to face troubled Sharks at the Liberation Stadium.
In Ilorin, high-riding Sunshine Stars will fancy their chances of shooting to the top of the table when they visit newly-promoted Kwara United at the Ilorin Township Stadium.
At the Sardauna Stadium in Gusau, coach Isa Ladan Bosso’s job is on the line as struggling Wikki Tourists face home team Zamfara United.
In other fixtures, Ranch Bees host Gateway FC of Abeokuta at the Kaduna Township Stadium; Kano Pillars are guests of basement side Gombe United, while Rangers international of Enugu stake their home pride against Bayelsa United at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.
