The establishment of IICC Shooting Stars Football Club, Ibadan, no doubt, filled a yawning gap as it was widely accepted by the indigenes.
No wonder, the club overshadowed its contemporaries in and around the Western Region, thus becoming a rallying point
As such, it was not too long before this firm support began to manifest through laudable achievements for the club. The first victory recorded was in a local derby between the club and the police X1 that ended 13-0 in favour of Shooting Stars at the Olubadan Stadium in 1963.
The club consolidated its hold on the Ibadan Division Amateur League, winning it from inception till 1982 except in 1976, when it withdrew because of Cup Winners' Cup competition.
However, the real test came for IICC Shooting Stars in 1975 when they played in the Challenge Cup final against Rangers' International at the National Stadium, Lagos.
Shooting Stars had to represent the country in the Winner's Cup competition, despite losing 0/1 in the Challenge Cup to Rangers International; the then League champions.
The representation of the country by the IICC Shooting Stars pitched the club against tough opponents, like Kenya Breweries, Rokana United (Zambia), Zamalek FC (Egypt) and Tonnere Kalara (Cameroon).
At the end of the day IICC (Shooting Stars) defeated Tonnerre on 4-2 on aggregate to win the first continental trophy for Nigeria. The feat was appreciated by the then Military Governor of the State Major General David Jemibewon.
Shooting Stars nearly repeated the feat in 1977 but fell to Enugu Rangers in the semi-finals.
Since then, the sky has been the limit. Even taking into consideration the unsuccessful attempt of the African Champions Cup competition in 1984 and 1996.
Another notable mention should be for 3SC’s pioneering roles at winning the CAF Trophy donated by the late M.K.O. Abiola in 1992.
Shooting Stars also added the West African Football Union (WAFU) Cup to their list of honours in 1998.
The team was recently voted National league club of the year 2009 at the AIT Football Awards.
