3SC step up preparations, held by Gateway in Ibadan Posted on Thursday, Sep. 10th 2009
Shooting Stars continued their build up to the Globacom Premier League when they played out a goalless draw with visiting Gateway FC of Abeokuta at the Lekan Salami Stadium on Wednesday.
3SC’s technical crew fielded a mixture of old and new players who distinguished themselves in the midweek encounter.
3SC had edged the same side 2-1 last weekend in Abeokuta, with young forward Dolapo Omotayo hitting two first half goals for the Oluyole Warriors.
Goalkeeper Segun Oluwaniyi told shootingstarssc.com that, having engaged in a string of testy friendly games in the last couple of weeks, the team is ready to take on the best of Nigerian football this season.
“We have been playing a series of friendly matches, which is a welcome development for us.
.
“This has really brought out the best in us, and the quality of our play so far confirms that we are ready to take on the best of Nigerian football,” enthused the former Enugu Rangers shot-stopper.
General Manager and Technical Director of the team, Mutiu Adepoju stressed the series of friendlies was ‘a good thing’ for the club,’ but expressed disappointment that his team could not convert the numerous scoring opportunities that came their way.
“We obviously had the game by the scruff of the neck, but the inability to score goals was our bane today,” the ex-Super Eagles star admits.
Shooting Stars will now take on Kwara United at the Lekan Salami Stadium on Saturday in continuation of their build-up.
The Ibadan warlords open their Premier League campaign on Sunday, September 27 with a home fixture against Dolphin FC of Port Harcourt.
