3SC skipper regrets red card incident Posted on Sunday, Dec. 6th 2009 Shooting Stars captain Shakiru Lawal has regretted his sending off in the dying seconds of last Saturday’s Glo premiership game against Rangers International in Ibadan .
The battling midfielder was shown the red card by referee Benjamin Nneji after fouling a goal-bound Rangers attacker. It was Lawal’s second book-able offence after receiving his first booking in the 75th minute.
“It was quite unfortunate this had to happen but that’s football. I had to do what I did because one of our centre backs (Lekan Gabriel) was being attended to after sustaining a cut on his face.
“However, that is not to say my action was justified. The team takes precedent over any individual. I have learnt my lesson and when I return from suspension I promise to double my efforts at uplifting the team,” he said.
On the way forward for the club following the alarming rate at which 3SC have been dropping points at home, Lawal stressed that luck and a new orientation on the part of everybody, particularly the players, will be vital for the team’s survival.
“So far we have been very unlucky in our home games. To win we need to start converting our chances. We should pray for better luck and the players must have a change of attitude. We shouldn’t take things for granted anymore because the premiership requires a lot of hard work and commitment,” he asserted.
