3SC boss faults Amodu’s sack       Posted on Monday, Feb 15th 2010

Shooting Stars General Manager and Technical Director, Mutiu Adepoju has thumbed down the NFF for relieving Shaibu Amodu of his duties as coach of the Super Eagles.

In a chat with SoccerStar from Ibadan, the former World Cup star said the move was rather ‘too late’ and may not give Nigeria the right direction at the South Africa 2010 event.
“I had expected the NFF to give Amodu the green light to continue on the job, particularly after delivering on the Nations Cup semifinal mandate. I thought it was the most sensible thing to do considering the time frame.

“But I was rather surprised to see the officials coming up with their decision to sack the coach.

“It’s not very common for World Cup-bound teams to change coaches less than five months to the competition, and this may not give us the right direction at the Mundial.

“However, since the decision has been taken, the NFF must now do the right thing by appointing a manager befitting the Super Eagles.

“It must be someone who can mould together a team capable of doing well at the World Cup in spite of the short time at his disposal.”

Adepoju further stated that the new coach would have a lot on his hands as he tries to study what he has met on ground and try to take his own decisions regarding tactics and team selection.

“It’s not going to be easy because he’ll also need sometime to study our team, study the players, make his own assessment and perhaps call in fresh legs.

“This is not a day’s job and considering the short time between now and the tournament at hand, I pray that God helps us.”
